Default Frozen Semen Contender & Caretino

A friend of mine bought a mare in Germany last fall. She has decided to breed the mare before bringing her across the pond. Has anyone had experiences with the quality of Contender or Caretino frozen semen? I have heard Corrado and Cassini I are still offered via fresh semen, but the % are low.

Not sure about Caretino, but we have always heard that Contender’s frozen semen is not good. If you live in the USA and want him in your pedigree you need to use one of his sons, like ISF Contango or Capone… there are a few others….that I can’t think of off the top of my head.

When I was in vet school there was a client determined to get a Contender pregnancy. MANY thousands of dollars later and she went home with an open mare

Contact Karen Reid of Fox Fire Farm, she will have this info. The last time I asked her I think she confirmed that Caretino is not available (at least not here and frozen) and Contender is very poor quality.

have your friend ask at Keros, belgium and Paul Schokelmohle, germany for the success rate. they'll be forthcoming if the straws are worthless.

I've bred to Capone 1 over the last 4 yrs. & Olympic Sapphire has been bred to him and one of her clones too. I'm expecting 2 Capone's this spring...One could do mcuh worse than Capone.

They do not offer these two stallions, only the verband.

You can get good fresh here from Carracci, a Caretino son who looks real Caretino, who showed GP with a junior and is now being offered to the public. he has a daughter on the Global World Tour from limited breedings in Europe.
