    Question Flake (Florencio x Metternich)

Has anyone used this stallion or seen him in person? I know last year was his first year breeding; are there any foals on the ground yet?

How could you name a horse Flake?

Perhaps it means something different in Germany? Car manufacturers have the same problem -- who wants to drive a car named a "Probe"? or cars that have a different meaning when translated?

He is a really nice type - hate to admit it but I have not heard of him before. He is refined and an elegant mover. Wonder how he jumps, with that movement and a nice jump he'd win in hunters (sacriledge, I know!)

Seen him in Person. But have my note on him not in reach.

Flake is not a german word maybe someone wanted to used flake as in snowflake...

Common opinion amoung some breeder friends of mine: The name is program, and the horse is not needed. Nicely black, but the back looks as if not used at all.

@Nootka, I think thats where the name came from
And we'll see what will happen with him... He might just disappear like many stallions before.. Obviously he has a very nice temperament, and he has a brother in Finland who is competing in S-dressage level already and sired some foals...

My mare is decending from a xx line which was liked only by very few breeders and she has some relatives (maternal halfbrother and Cousin) who compete very sucessfully on GP Dressage level... So I guess the future will tell what will happen to Flake......

Alexandra, I get what you mean. I also dislike the way he is over the back, his loin and quarters look weak and disjointed to me. The rest I like a lot!

Manni, she looks nice enough but the video quality made it difficult to see how the foal moved. Is this a stallion you would used again?

Kerole thank you!! But I'm confused that the quality is not sufficient... We tried to make it high quality.
And concerning using Flake again... I talked to the stallion station and obviously there are only a few foals by him, but all of them seem to be very longlegged and elegant. And I did find another foal on Youtube by him which also looks quite nice.
I bought this mare in foal to him and really I wanted the mare, not this foal... I planned to sell it originally. But the longer I watch this foal the more I think that I shouldn't do it. It is very friendly and curious and great to handle. Additionally it moves quite well. So maybe my next riding prospect.....
And my husband mentioned yesterday that he thinks that our Sandro Hit/Don Schufro mare might be a good match for him too, as she is really a huge horse....
But lets see how the foal registration will go... We will have the registration in two weeks... I will tell you the results and ofcourse I hope for a nice professional picture...

Awesome Manni. You have very lovely mares with some exceptional bloodlines. I am undecided on the stallion so it is good to see real results.

Re the video, it may just be my poor tired computer having a bad moment! \

Oh and best of luck at the classification! I'm looking forward to seeing the photos and videos from that.

And I will for sure tell about the classification. Maybe I will even get the Chance to see the stallion...

I like him, his hind legs are quite active and disagree that his back isn't working "at all". Not an uber-mover but a good mover, and there are plenty of stallions with flamboyant action who don't move their back all that much either. With Anglo-Arab and TB close up and not too many interesting AAs or TBs breeding these days, I would think there would be a niche for him for certain mares, especially for breeding programs with a longer term vision rather than those who are into flash for the fast sale.

    Just a little update...
We went to the foal classification and got a premium (although IMO this is overrated... Most foals get it).
And the photographer (she is really awesome) took some pics

    http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps4238c395.jpg

She was one of the youngest foals (only 4 weeks) and we had a very long drive of 5 hours.. So I was quite proud how she did.
