Question: Are the Fox Valley Shires the ones bred by that nutbag in Illinois, who thought Shires were so magikal that he bred a million of them and flooded the market? I remember driving by his place decades ago and seeing vast herds of them, and then hearing he couldn't sell them all and they were going to auction. I also have a friend who lived across from his ill-conceived "Shireland," that is now a deserted collection of ramshackle buildings.
Yes, the Fox Valley line of Shires were originally bred by "that nutbag in Illinois." I used to work at Shireland caring for, riding and driving his Shires. The horses were amazing. My boss/the owner was not. It is a shame to see this horse in such a bad spot but I am thrilled that he is getting the care that he needs. This particular horse is not one that I knew or worked with.
From what I read on the FB updates, his feet were doing better, but he went into liver failure, said to be caused by his laying down so much. The way I read it, he was not pts, but died on his own, but I could be totally wrong on that.
