Question UPDATE: RIP Frog Pond Farm's Draft Rescue, Ollie. :(

He went from being a Breyer horse model, and Shire stallion, to neglected, then Colitis, Abcesses, and sinking founder. Poor boy.

Here's a local news report about him:

    http://www.nbc4i.com/story/21549179/former-champion

    And their Facebook page:

    https://www.facebook.com/FrogPondFar...Rescue?fref=ts

And here is the album that his farrier, Esco Buff, put together, when he worked on Ollie at OSU:

And here is Frog Pond Farm's website: http://www.frogpondfarmdrafts.com/

My g-d what happened to his 'people'? How on earth do these things happen? How do people let.this.happen? Poor poor animal.

Oh no. I've been following his story and didn't know about these recent problems... my heart sank when I saw the farrier x rays... Poor poor Ollie.

As the person of a Fox Valley Shire, I am horrified by what happened to Ollie. I am sending healing wishes his way.

I saw it come up on my FB feed (last night? Night before?) when Esco put it up.

If anyone can save Ollie, it will be Dr. Buff. He's awesome.

Yup, Esco is my farrier so I've been following. Poor guy, hopefully he's on the road to recovery!

Question: Are the Fox Valley Shires the ones bred by that nutbag in Illinois, who thought Shires were so magikal that he bred a million of them and flooded the market? I remember driving by his place decades ago and seeing vast herds of them, and then hearing he couldn't sell them all and they were going to auction. I also have a friend who lived across from his ill-conceived "Shireland," that is now a deserted collection of ramshackle buildings.

Yes, it's so awful! There is a thread about him on another racing site I'm on. Sending jingles his way!

Yes, the Fox Valley line of Shires were originally bred by "that nutbag in Illinois." I used to work at Shireland caring for, riding and driving his Shires. The horses were amazing. My boss/the owner was not. It is a shame to see this horse in such a bad spot but I am thrilled that he is getting the care that he needs. This particular horse is not one that I knew or worked with.

From what I read on the FB updates, his feet were doing better, but he went into liver failure, said to be caused by his laying down so much. The way I read it, he was not pts, but died on his own, but I could be totally wrong on that.
