Default Mosquitos - Spring is here in the south

Spring is here and the mosquitos are back (we did not have much of a winter so they never really left). I have a trail ride this weekend and I have a feeling the mosquitos are going to be really bad. Any suggestions to save my poor horse from the little buggers? I don't normally use sprays so I am not sure if any of them work well.

    Thanks, Bopper

Mosquito Halt works - I tried it after reading a review in Horse Journal. I actually use both Equi-Spot & Mosquito Halt after discussing it with my vet - as my mare is allergic to gnats.

Go to the camping section of Wal-Mart and grab a can of Ultra-Thon. I always put an ear net on my mare & spray the net before hand too. Mosquitos, deer flies, etc. all stay away.

Really?!?!? I woke up to 6 inches of snow on the ground and more coming. It'll be a while before the skeeters show up. Down side - have not been able to trail ride for a couple of months.

I'm not sure what sounds worse at the moment, waking up snow or mosquitoes. Guess I'm lucky that I have months and months of mud to enjoy.

I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food.

It may get hot as heck here in the summer but it sure beats snow, ice, etc. Thanks for the suggestions.
