Default suggestions please: D bit for hunter pony

Can anyone suggest a D ring snaffle that is suitable for a soft mouthed hunter pony? She goes very well in a rubber D except that she chews through them every month or so. I have tried the Happy Mouth and she went through it in a few days! She needs a 4.75". Are there any metal D that are similar in thickness to the rubber D? Thanks for any suggestions!

Maybe a hollow mouth? From Dover:

Yes, I looked at that bit but it doesn't come smaller than 5" :-(. The pony D's I saw all were pretty thin relative to the rubber D. Sigh...

Why not try wrapping a regular metal bit in latex.

You can build it up to whatever thickness you need, and while he will chew through it like he has everything elsr, it's cheaper and easier to replace than the whole bit.

I had a mare that I had the same issue with, she also went well in a D with copper rollers like this:

It's a pain trying to find bits smaller than 5". Look on Just for Ponies, and I think I've found some on Schneider's and at Mary's Tack. I have some 4.75" bits that are a snaffle with a small bean in the middle (there are several different shapes) but my guy like the rubber snaffle best also. Luckily, he hasn't started chewing them yet. Good Luck!

Thanks everyone. I will have to try the online suggestions as none of the tack stores in my area carry smaller bits! I will also try the latex as I'm curious to see if it works for her. Thanks again.
