    Default Washington DC Help

Hey, I have a friend convincing me to do a jumper derby and a low level horse trial in the fall. The only issue is, other than 1 time in college I've never stepped foot on a CC course.

My horse is located in MD on the south east side. Going to Poolesville or up to Baltimore is a bit far. Think PG County Equestrian center area. Any idea of some trainers we could pay to come out for a day or two, to help a girl out? A couple jumps available in a field (but no banks). Willing to trailer a little ways but not too far. Could probably get 2-4 other people from my farm interested.

    Thanks

ETA: I'm ok with going somewhere to take a couple lessons in the basics on their horses as well. I got this is something you learn in a day, but I'd like the basic idea at least!

Marlborough PC is having an Eventing Derby at Rosaryville Park on March 16.

Entering one of the low divisions would ba a good start.

Or go over there, without a horse, and talk to people. I am sure you will find someone who can help you.

I'm going to school the water on that day. Don't know why I didn't think of asking around then. I guess I was looking for recommendations on the area, because to be honest I'm not quite sure what good looks like!

Steuart Pittman is the man of the moment in OTTB right now! I'd love to get him, but I'm guessing he's very booked and very expensive. But that is a great call.

I would still give him a call, you can trailer to him for a lesson. You could also try Sam Allan, she's right in Brandywine.

If those fail I know someone who might come down from Montgomery County if you could get enough riders together.

Get in touch with Cherie Chauvin, she travels and she knows of some local places to go school. I trained with her when I first made the switch from hunters to eventing. She's great! She'll be at the Marlborough jumper derby next weekend, ask at the secretary's stand and they'll point her out. You can also find contact info here: http://www.golightlysporthorses.com/

Try him, you might be surprised. If nothing else, you can ask him for a recommendation.
