Yeah, that one doesn't jump well at all. You might need to just hide her in my barn for awhile

Though I have to say I'm getting a huge kick out of the Whinney the Pooh beast. Cool face, cool horse, cool kid.

Is that the mare who we all thought had the super awesome cute dressage test? Wasn't it narrated by JMP or someone, IIRC?

Without having been there I would hazard a guess that yes, she had a super cute dressage test, and, yes, it was narrated by JMP

Zizi is the Akhal Teke x tb, isn't she? And she is awesome with cow work, too, IIRC? Could you tell us some more about her?

That was her younger sister, Nina. (Nina, unlike the rest of her family, is quiet and unfussy in the dressage.)

I seem to remember something less than quiet. Mayhaps I'm delusional though. She's a gorgeous girl.

This is Nina's video. Maybe you're thinking of her other sister, Dekorum? She was quite lively.

(Their mother was the worst. She hated the concept of dressage, the idea that anyone would ask her to do something that she would not otherwise be inclined to do.)

Very cute! Anyone else notice how each rider is smiling except the Olympian?

Correct. Zizi is by the Akhal-Teke stallion Super Star and out of my TB mare Bett's Jet. We have no idea why she's so short. She's always been tiny -- at four weeks of age, she was still small enough to walk under her mum. Her sisters were too tall for that when they were born.

Zizi loves to work cattle, and will herd any available animals -- cats, pigs, dogs, horses -- with or without a rider on her back. She has, on occasion, taken hostages for lengthy periods of time. But it's not really a problem as long as you can get five or six people together to help free them.

Her first jump was over a Mylar balloon. She was out on a trail, a balloon floated out from behind a pile of junk, right across her path. She'd been trotting along with the cowgirl and when the balloon drifted by at about three and a half feet off the ground, the cowgirl figured she'd stop hard and stare. Not Zizi. She trotted right up to the balloon and jumped it. When they got home, the cowgirl called me to say 'If you ever wanted a jumper, this is your horse. I mean, Dekorum is nice but this one can really jump.'

She's now 8 and has competed very successfully through Training. She'll be moving up sometime soon but we'll do that when JMP says she's ready. He's been great with her because she's a very unusual type -- Mike calls her a 'free spirit' -- and she's so athletic and driven, she needs someone watching out for her.

I should add that she's not necessarily an easy ride because she's so small, quick and forward. But you can put a small child or a young teen on her back and she tones it down for them.

Lovely mare! Gotta love Tekes, even if she is only half Teke! Every Teke I've met has been a joy to be around.
