Not criticizing, just curious; what holds the person on other than the reins? Is the driver pulling on the reins for balance? Is there a strap I'm not seeing?

    just reins & balance.

I wouldn't want my feet stuck in anything if I had to bail out or lost my balance.

yup, just reins and balance. There is quite a bit of bounce in those lines so I would think he is not holding on to his pony's mouth.

One day at a barn in my distant past, I heard someone making a Tarzan call. I looked outside & see nutter trainer standing on one of those things mechanics lie on to roll under your car, being pulled along at full speed behind ASB roadster. He made it a point to take several sharp corners, and lots of noises.

I should mention he was doing this on pavement.
