Yesterday's session went much better. Only about 15 minutes and no sweating. I worked on free lunging voice commands a little and then signaled him to come in. He came up and let me pet him a little but then backed up, so I sent him out for a little more work. We repeated that once before he came in and allowed more petting than before. Then, I simply walked away. Hehehe. I get to end the session, rather than him. That way, we make progress. We'll see what happens today.
Oh, I stopped by a few times to socialize with him throughout the day. He really likes watermelon, LOL!
Great session today! We don't do the round pen thing anymore. I go in holding the same lead rope and leather halter that I've had since the beginning, feed him treats and scratch what he'll let me scratch. Today was very good. He let me rub his face with the lead rope and scratch his withers. He did a great camel face and head bob when I got to the right spot. He is still a little unsure when I stand up, but he's getting better. I left him wanting more.
Oh, he is so cute! He looks like my little Dulcinea, the neighbor's pony that I took under my wing after she kept dumping their kids. She was a real sassypants but so much fun. Please keep us posted on your progress. You did a very kind thing by saving this little guy and finding a buddy for your donkey. I hope he will come around.
