Default Can Septicemia as a foal cause a roach back as an adult?

There is a wellbred mare in my area for sale as a broodmare prospect or riding horse. She had septicemia as a foal and had to be treated by the vet. She has lefover fluid in her hock. Also it looks like a very slight roach in her back. Her mom and sire don't have roaches backs. Her sire is competing in the international ring and her dam has had a full sister that is correct and very lovely. Any chance septicemia could of gone to her back? Would there be a way for the vet to test? Or should I just run far away!!! I was just wondering if anybody had a similar situation!

    I would doubt it.

    I would doubt it too.

A very slight roach doesn't sound like the end of the world to me, considering you know her sire, dam, and full sister all have great backs. If the price was set accordingly, and she was well above average in all other regards, I may still consider this mare.

It'll be interesting what others have to say re roach backs.

Unless the mare has a one in a million pedigree, then I'd pass. There are lots of mares out there with superb bloodlines, temperaments and conformation, why take the risk?
