Book Title
I'm trying to rememer the exact title (and author, if known) of a book on hunting I saw onetime. It was something like "Notes on Hunting from a Father to his Son". Anyone know?

Are you thinking of Beckford's 'Thoughts on Hunting?'

Beverley I don't think so. I'm pretty sure it had the word "son" or "boy" in the title.

Call Horse Country @ 800-882-4868 and ask for Jenny in the Book Department. I think you're thinking of "On Hunting" by Roger Scruton. I believe "Notes on Hunting from a Father to his Son" is the subtitle. She could tell you for sure.

Well, I ordered it just on your say so, Kryswyn. I don't think I can go wrong with this one even if it isn't the one I had in mind. I'll update this thread when I have the book in my hands, and if it isn't the one, I'll call Jenny.

Well, I got in "On Hunting" by Roger Scruton and that turned out not to be what I was looking for, but worth a read in its own right. His first chapter, "Apologia pro Vida Sua" is especially good, rising to the level of high literature.
Anyway, I tracked down the name of the book I WAS looking for and it is "Letters to a Young Huntsman" by Andrew Barclay.

You're looking for Beckford too, you just don't know it. :-) IMO an essential part of any hunting library, along with 'Hounds for a Pack' by the Comte de Vezins (which is actually my all time favorite reference- a tiny little tome but extremely helpful to anyone in understanding pack breeding and dynamics in the hunt field).

Okay, on your say-so I just ordered those two too. I've avoided reading about hunting because I'd rather be doing, but now that the season is over for me here, I can fit in a few books, I imagine.
