I bought the rope noseband one from Tractor Supply for $25 and made a sheepskin nose cover.

I got two of the $25 ones and didn't cover the noseband; it doesn't sit hard on their face at all, never saw a reason to fluff it up but it would be easy to do, as candle said.

I bought an inexpensive used rope noseband S hack on ebay, and covered the nose in vet wrap. Works great!

I just bought a larger one. The one I have is an arab size, and I bought a new one from TSC that is a horse size. According to the website, it is about 1.5" longer than the arab size.

I put real sheepskin on the nose. Mine is a rope nose. You can also use the faux sheepskin too. I wouldn't use vet wrap.

it just melts/softens/gets grossss and gets nasty oogy hard over time. not a good 'cushion' at all.

I have the endurance s-hack. It was expensive, but it was worth every penny. I went through some of the cheaper options back in the day and after trying this one, I wouldn't go back.

I used a roll of vetwrap to cushion the nose of my s-hack and it is working great! Hate the look of the fleece...we use it for all jumping phases for eventing. Traditional english jumping hackamore was too much leverage.

I have also found that the fleece tends to wear out and get 'gunky' much faster than the 'fancy' endurance ones. Agreed about too much leverage on the traditional jumping hacks.

Because totally exactly absolutely what Katarine said. And I live in "da south" also. But have also lived and ridden extensively in the PNW.

It does rub fur off the nose. Ask me how I know. If you think not give it time. Try a few endurance rides, and then you will know. Vet wrap is not a smooth forgiving surface. It is rubbery, and has threads in it, all which catch fur. The horse face is not smooth how the hack sits on the horse nose. It will touch certain points, then the vet wrap rubs. This can go for the flat ones and the rope ones. Horse faces sweat and the vet wrap slides intitally, then when the face dries some it will catch the fur and skin of the nose. Sheepskin or faux sheepskin is the way to go, it cushions and conforms. I use dental floss to tie it on, or cotton butcher string. I use a slip type stitch like you would if you were tying a roast, or you can just wrap around it tie at the end. Dental floss is strong, won't break. It gets down into the sheepskin or faux sheepskin so you can not see it and doesn't ever touch the horse.

I use only real sheepskin. It is easy to take off and clean, and refluff with a wire dog brush. You could also sew on velcro on the inside.

I do, but I kind of "made" my own. I bought this , then I bought this.
I cut the rope part of the S hackamore and added the padded biothane nosepiece. I also took the chain off and added a biothane curb strap

I needed a bigger nose piece, wish I had seen that one first. Oh well. The bigger S hack is working out really well. The arab size I had bought used was just too small. That little bit bigger made all the difference.

I will definitely keep the link in mind though. Neat!

Huh-I didn't know such a thing existed! We've not had any rubbing problems with our horses but I'll keep that band in mind, looks handy!

I agree about the vet wrap - I tried it on a side pull once and it eventually does harden and get sticky, which is why I keep my rolls of vet wrap in the house rather than the tack room now.

I just sucked it up and spent the money on one from Distance Depot. I couldn't find a cheap alternative that wasn't rope, and they had the best price with shipping added in. It's quite nice, though at this point I haven't used it since I last rode in June.
