    Question Body Score This Horse

I hate body scoring because everyone seems to have a little different scale. What are your thoughts-

Not body clipped, but middle section of ribs can been seen easily. Backbone rises slightly above top-line. Flanks sink in, but hip bones are still covered.

Also, would you ride a horse in this condition?

    I'd probably call it 2.5/3 out of 9 horse.purinamills.com/products/BodyConditionsScoringChart/default.aspx

Without seeing a picture I would guess 3. It would depend on the overall health of the horse as to whether I would ride it or not.

If it's the 19 year old in the other thread, remember that older horses who aren't in condition will appear to be in worse shape than a horse half their age, with the same body fat.

Horse was round with no sagging of his top-line two months ago and has a nice round behind. I have a feeling this is lack of food and not age related.

Or he has Cushings or some other condition that can create rapid loss of condition. But the sagging topline is pretty unusual just from malnutrition in a senior horse.
When opportunity knocks it's wearing overalls and looks like work.
