Default saddle fitters Orange County New York

I have been using the same fitter for several years with good luck. Today I sent my saddle off to have the foam removed and wool put in... The I had heard some people had some bad luck with my fitter..
Does anyone have any experience with fitters in my area so I can compare...

I've met Karen Withstanley in the Danbury area over the years. Depending on which part of OC you're from that may only be 30 miles away. She seems very knowledgeable and her clients swear by her. Here is a link to her web site...

Kate Athanas/Wilson is the usual go-to person.

You already sent your saddle off, right? So just communicate well. She has a good reputation. IMO, there isn't bad luck, just crossed signals.

I had Curt Hanks at Smith Worthington in Hartford, CT rip the CAIR panels out of a Bates I had and reflock with wool. He did a fine job. Heck, you can even haul your horse into the middle of urban Hartford and have him look at saddle and horse combination. That's what we did.

Before you expect any saddler to do this job, you need to make sure that your panels were built to accommodate wool in the first place. Do they have gussets in them-- a seam along the bottom edge that allows for a 3-D shape? Replacing the usual non-gusseted panels that surround foam is a bigger deal. I'm not sure it can be done using the same leather. This kind of surgery should be discussed in detail with your saddler. When it goes wrong, it goes really, really wrong.

    Just call him/her up!

I guess I will have to wait and see what happens. She seemed pretty confident on working on my saddle. I do not believe it has gussetts. Will that be a problem?
I will say I was surprised to find out that the little collegiate convertible my daughter has is wool flocked....and my $4000 saddle is not..
I knew it had foam and I guess over the years each horse I had was good but no ones back changed this much! Then again he is the first non TB I have owned! Maybe it is the Trakehner blood.. heehee....
    Thanks for the input
