One jerk off the street and here comes the next wave... anyone who is in southern Fauquier County, VA (essentially Nokesville to Sumerduck and Remington) please be extra cautious about your trailers, recreational vehicles and heavy work equipment. There have been several large-scale (as in, hundreds of thousands of dollars worth) thefts in the area in the last few weeks, including a dump truck, a tri-axle flatbed, an excavator, large tractors, ATVs and the like. If your horse trailer is parked someone out of the way you may want to consider a hitch lock. Definitely avoid leaving your keys in the tractor, zero-turn etc. None of these thefts are being reported in the Fauquier police blotter -- I'm hearing about it from neighbors who are contractors who have gotten hit and know others that have gotten hit. One guy attempted to retrieve his ATV and got shot at by the thieves. We went through a round of this in the area last fall, seems like either that ring got braver or we have a new, more predatory one in town. They certainly have some kind of pipeline in place to make the equipment vanish. (north? south? We're near I-95 so could go either way)

    End of public service announcement...
