For a bit as a teenager I did the anime con thing and cosplayed a bit. That stopped when I got stalked around the Baltimore Convention Center by a posse of skipping catgirls.

Yes, you read that right and yes, that is what it sounds like.

a strange attraction...I sometimes want to... but then again, it is rather creepy at times....

I have seen some pictures that were simply amazing. To the point of sheer awe, how int he world did those girls manage to keep the costume from falling off...

    But http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bm4vABFnKc...r%252Bmoon.jpg

    puts it back into perspective....

    http://www.wowhead.com/news=196434/b...on-photographs

a LOT of thought and work (and money) goes into that.

It's massive homage to a visual body of work, that's for sure!

I know a young woman, I think around 14, who had a fox costume made up that was a-mazing--Head, hands, feet (paws?) and bushy tail. She is very into anime and wears a foxtail to school. Is that Cosplay?

wearing the fox tail to school? weird.

but I suppose yes - I am sure the fox has meaning...not sure the anime springs to mind right now though

Yeah, she is a very singular kid! Goes to an alternative HS. All I could think of when I saw the foxtail dangling from her jeans was that she certainly has a pair of brass balls to wear the tail out and about! I could never do that...

I don't think I have pictures anymore. That particular day I'd gone with a bunch of friends who had all bonded over watching Digimon. (We're talking early 2000's here; we'd been friends for a few years but that's how we'd met.) So when we all managed to get in one place for a convention we did the 01/02 cast from that. I was cross-playing as Takeru (actually, that's how I managed to ditch the cat-girls... found a women's restroom. They then started shrieking about how omg it's a girl. Get lost, you people are a disgrace to estrogen.)

At some other point I did Miyu from Kyuketsuki Miyu. I almost ended up going to Otakon a few years ago as Sailor Jupiter, but that fell through. I would love to try Riza from Fullmetal but I don't have the sewing skills to really do her costume justice, nor do I think my friends would let me borrow their Shiba Inu.

    LOL!

Yeah, Digimon is a bit older. (I think actually older than Pokemon...)

I would love to go to Blizzcon tho...but I am not THAT nerdy that I would do something too fancy...Human caster of some sort would be just fine...but currently I don't have the energy to fix a few holes in the kid's jeans...much less to sew some elaborate embroidered robe/cloak/hood outfit....

And then I would probably chicken out anyhow...the rational side breaking through....

(I love Miyu...never known anybody else who saw the show...)

She sounds like a Furry who has a fursuit. My best friend is one.

Can I ask you what a Furry is? When we talked, I kinda just nodded and said cool a lot...didn't really get the gist.

LOL, it falls under the section 'things you should be afraid to ask, for good reason'

A fetish thing. be careful when you google it.

I don't consider a furry a fetish thing... stereotyping a bit. My friend identifies herself as a person who feels like an animal. Not like a wild-sex animal, but literally an animal. Like a cat or a dog.

She has a character named Leppy:

Of course when most people think of furries they think of furry porn. But they have that in cosplaying too. There's all extremes. No need to group them all together.

In fact I have a character as well. Although I don't consider myself a furry, I think it's cool to have an animal version of me, if you will.

(she's a cockatiel and tiger gryphon, which are both very symbolic animals to me)

As you can see, there's some really beautiful art.

I went to an arts school in high school, so we had plenty of people wearing all sorts of unusual things- mermaid tails, cloaks, etc. One girl wore a tail. Not a furry. Next year, another guy wearing a tail comes in. Furry. Thought he'd met his true love. Made that extremely clear. Ended up having to explain to girl what exactly he was looking for... Highly amusing for the rest of us.

It's definitely true that furries have a lot of extremes, and I was a bit weirded out by it too. But I think it's very cool now. To each his own, and the fursuits people make can be really incredible.

any of those costumes can me incredible awesome, fur or not.
I just feel sad that I don't have the time anymore to do extreme things like that. I mean, some of these things are INVOLVED!
