So I finally did it... I took the plunge and bought a horse! It's been almost 9 years since I sold my Children's Hunter and this one seemed too good to pass up. I've decided his "show name" will be Whistlejacket after the famous George Stubbs painting, but I'm not wild about calling him Jack for his barn name. Something historical would be neat, I think. He is a 4 yo Han/TB, he w/t/c and is just ready to start learning the basics and a bit of lateral work

I'm going to second Henry. I think it suits him. He's very cute! For confo, I'm not really an expert but would say he looks pretty well put together. I'd be more concerned about what he can actually do than how he's built. There's nothing glaringly wrong so he should work out well!!

I'm not a conformation whiz, but I'd peg him for a strong hunter prospect. Obviously maturing, time, training, and muscling will benefit him greatly. A strong component of judging a hunter is their way of going and attitude. I don't think a hunter should be dead to the world, but he should be quite steady, willing, and pleasant.

If your goal for him is the hunter or equitation divisions, then go for it. He certainly appears to have the look for either (or both), but training and time will tell. He might wind up being a stronger candidate for a particular type of riding or show division, but he's only 4 and there's a lot of time in the future to make those decisions.

If Jackson suits him, fine. But it is so popular right now; every other baby and dog I meet lately is named Jackson (or Jaxon). I always think my dogs and horses are unique (and perfect ) so I want them to have unique names. Of the names suggested I like Whistle because it fits that category. How many other horses have you met named Whistle?

The two pics make it hard to judge conformation. If you want a good conformation evaluation first start with him untacked and standing square with his head forward. Get shots from each side, from behind behind with the tail out of the way, from the front head on, and a close up of the front legs if you like. Nothing glaringly wrong that I can see. Maybe his knock tying in a tad higher at the bottom and maybe his shoulder could be a bit more laid back. However, it is hard to tell from the pics.

He is cutie though congrats!!

I think Jack suits him. It goes with his kind eye. Jackson certainly works, too.

The best way to tell if he is capable of being a Hunter is to see a video of him, walk, trot, canter and over jumps.

His conformation is good - I like his hind end. The only things that stood out to me were his front pasterns are a bit long and his hooves are not under his cannon like I look for.. his neck and head could be more refined. Cannot see his back/withers with saddle. Now saying those things I am being really picky like if you were doing the conformation Hunters.

But if you want to compete in Hunters it's all about movement and temperament.
