    Paint = Breed Pinto = Color

    Paints can be solid or pinto, most are pinto.

    I have found that the description "tricolor" gets a lot of attention.

    LOL, I tried to explain that to my non-horsy DH the other day...let's just say he was thoroughly confused!

    At University of North Carolina's Judge's School seminars, I was told: Pintos are beans, and Paint comes in cans. One should say the name of the base coat color: black, bay, buckskin, perlino, chestnut, palomino, cremello, grey, etc., and then say the name of the pattern: tobiano or overo.

    I'd also say buckskin pinto.

    There is NO indication of this horse being any kind of dun (which includes grulla/o) in these photos.
