Default Saddle Fitters in the Raleigh/Durham NC area

Hi - Can you tell me who you use for fitting saddles in the central NC area?

    Thanks

Dennis Brooks at Rocking B in Efland, NC. It's not too far from RDU. He has a funny little saddle/tack shop in an ancient house where he does all sorts of reflocking, leather repairs, and sells new & used saddles. I've never had him fit anything for me but he's apparently "the guy" with his certification. Every time I've been to the store, someone is there with their horse to be fitted. The hours are weird (T,F,Sat for about 5 hours or so each day). Their number is (919) 732-7453 and the address is actually Hillsborough although the exit (161) reads Efland. It's easy to get to right off the interstate.

OH - ETA that I'm pretty sure he also travels to the farm. I re-read your original post as to who do you use...reiterating I haven't used him to fit a saddle but he has done a lot of repair work for me...very happy.

Dennis Brooks does a great job-he does make farm calls, thus the weird hours. His son David Brooks is also a great saddle fitter. I have numbers for both if you need them. I think that there is someone at M and M Saddlery who does saddle fit as well, but I only have personal experience with Dennis and David.

I *highly* recommend Mary at M&M Tack Shop at MacNairs Country Acres Farm. (They are located there although not really related).

She is extremely knowledgeable and will come to your farm. She is honest and won't try to sell you a saddle instead of fitting yours. She had every opportunity to sell me a saddle after we tried many from the shop, but actually recommended we work with our existing saddle as it probably fit our Arab/ASB the best.

(For a different perspective on the other fitter mentioned please PM me if interested)

I too have used Mary at M&M to do some saddle fitting while at horse shows. She was super to work with, honest, and also did not push a different saddle. I have also used Marty at Horse of Course when they travel to the area.

I prefer Mary from M&M Tack Shop. She is very thorough and does a great job of explaning the whys and hows of the saddle fitting process.
