Yes! They never kick in when you need them like when we lost power during Nemo and the temp inside my house was 38 degrees! Nada, not one hot flash for 4 days. Where's the justice?

I've been very blessed I guess. I had horrid night sweats for a few years while I was in my late 40's and weight loss and reduction of simple sugars worked pretty well for me. My IBS quieted down, it was great. HOWEVER, stress has kicked a few things back into gear and I have a hard time sleeping through the night now. No sweats, not a whole lot of "hot", just enough to make me wakeful. I've got quite a few extra pound and a horrible diet, I might be able to get things back on track, I hope.
Your symptoms though, sound related to the high acid food, the tangerine, tomatoes. How about keeping a food journal and making changes slowly and seeing what works - calorie reduction, sugar reduction, caffeine, give each one about a week.
One glass of wine (or beer) is enough to have me pouring sweat. And randomly throughout the day too. Oddly, I don't seem to get the night sweats as much however. For me, the worst is how much I sweat off my head and through my hair. It's really embarrassing to be in social situations (or at work) and have to ring out your sopping wet, sweaty hair.
Let me tell you: Hot flashes dont really help when you are cold! I lost power and heat from Nemo. It was about 45 degrees in the house and I was wearing layers of clothes and cuddled under blankets when the hot flash hit. I went from being cold to being hot in a nanosecond! So for a few minutes I was uncomfortably hot and sweating. But when it was over, I was left sweaty and soon feeling clammy and colder than before!
No justice, I tell ya!
Sugar was my trigger. Now I only get hot flashes if I'm really tired or stressed. Eat too much sugar, and they're back. Unfortunately I love sugar, so it was really hard to give up. However, the hot flashes were definitely interfering with my day to day life.
