    Default Layover Farms -- Recommendations?!

Hey y'all... I'm bravely making an 1,800 mile trek across the country to move my horse to my new home with me. From GA to Northern Utah... I know, huge change. I'm hoping to move him in April.

Do y'all have some recommendations of farms that I could layover at outside of the following cities? (or along this route?)

    St Louis
    Kansas City

He is UTD on all vaccines and will have his health cert and everything. I would love to find farms within reasonable distance of the interstate and big enough to easily get a trailer in and out.

Let me know if y'all have any ideas!! Thanks!

    Can't help with Nashville.

We stayed at Gateway Stables in Pontoon Beach, IL last Sep. Easy on and off the freeway. Our trailer has a weekender LQ and that's where we stay. Motels and restaurants are not far away, though.

In KC we like Peeper Ranch in Lenexa, KS. This is a high dollar Morgan operation that is just really nice. Kenny, the manager, is good people. We've stayed there three times now on the way to Cavalry Competitions. Motels are a bit further away but not so very far.

    Can't help you with Denver.

Go to and you can get a good start.

    Good luck on your trip.

Are you taking I-25 north to I-80 or taking I-70?

If you're going to be going through Fort Collins:

now in KCMO, and plan to stay there

Another possibility in the Kansas City area is just off of the State route 50 between Sedalia and Kansas City itself. They have a few stalls at one end of the 4 aisles that are available for overnighters. Take a look at their website, and contact Susan Cox, see page

ETA, Lees Summit is just east of Kansas City. There is a Tractor Supply store nearby and another Purina dealer, in case you need to buy any feed. The TSC store carries Standlee compressed bale hay and various types of hay pellets.

Route 50 has easy access to various Interstate roads, such as I70, I435, I71 I35. It pretty much is parallel to I70 just a little bit farther south.
