Default Edited : Confirmed EHV-1 horse at HITS ocala

All second hand from an owner of a horse in the barn. But the gist was several horses in that particular barn quarantined for spiking fevers. Has anyone heard more or could confirm or elaborate on anything ?

Haven't heard anything, but you've just given me a heart attack. My guy just arrived today.

Sounded like it was just over a fever but the owner was not positive. Was hoping someone else could confirm it was just a few spiky temps. Checked HITS site and there was no info there. Going to call the show office in the am.

Mine is down there, and I have heard nothing. I am positive that if there was something going on, I would have been contacted!!

This is a confirmed case of EHV. DO not plan on hauling into HITS. If you go to spectate, change clothes and shower before touching your horses. Hopefully HITS will be on lockdown for a while till this gets settled.

The horse came from a barn up north but has been stalled at HITS. I would think there would be a press release sometime today.

Anyone know the barn number at HITS? Now I'm having my second heart attack.

How long do they expect the quarantine to last?

I am not entirely sure but my guess is 30 days.

And I don't think it's just one tent. My horse isn't stabled on the show grounds and they are not letting her leave along with the rest of the horses of her trainer.

UF is recommending any potentially exposed horses to have temps checked ever 4-6 hours.

Just talked to one of our trainers who is there now. Confirmed EHV-1. Tent 7 is quarantined. She's also heard horses are not to leave the property for 2 weeks. Like us, it is a challenge for them to get information.

This is scary as heck - how close are the tents to each other? I wish and hope that details become more readily available!

Close enough to cause an issue..coupled with the sheer numbers of horses in and out and on and off the grounds and back and forth to other venues across the state this time of year.

HITS just posted on their FB page that their are no restrictions on horses moving in or out. To me this is VERY scary. This thing can spread to many many places if not contained.
