Notice the hoof boots on the horses instead of shoes and the rubber bits? This is a guy who loves his horses.
There are many reasons to think someone loves their horses, but those, nope, more like either using what works for them and the situation, or following fads and making do to make the fad work.
I have yet to see a horse that really likes a rubber bit over a metal one.
NOT ONE of the colts we started and tried rubber bits liked them, not one.
We thought it was a combination of rubber bits being a bit bigger and so more bit in there, which in the larger horses many not be as much a problem with that and the texture, rubber, even when wet in the mouth, being a bit more sticky, less smooth feeling than metal.
Then, maybe his horses do like them better.
As for shoes, who knows, many horse lovers shoe their horses when that is what the work they do ask for.
Some times, our biases tend to take us down paths that don't hold up that well to a second look, or a second pair of eyes.
Boy, that was a real trappy spot to get that log thru.
We had our belgian to farm with in the mountains.
We took our crops, wheat, oats and barley back to the house in bundles in a sled and it was not as hard as that, because we mostly went up hill, didn't have whatever you were sledding behind the horse trying to catch up to it.
That looks like a young horse and nicely steady for his age.
