Default It seems like all the COTH forums have much fewer posts lately.

Just doesn't seem as busy as usual.

More like spring is just around the corner, & people are starting to come out of their winter slumber & realize that they actually have lives. Lives that don't revolve around the internet.

Competition from social media at work.
There is only so many hours in a day, so many free hours in a day to read and even less to take the time to post.

All forums are having less traffic, not just COTH, except it had picked up a bit lately, as some slowly get tired of the FB voyeur non-stop orgy.
That much banal information gets old, eventually.

I've noticed the same thing, especially with the Racing page.

I think when there is something of particular interest people chime in, but remarkaing on what color coat to wear on a gray horse is perhaps a banal activity at best. I think a preponderance of this type of discussion drives away all but the most addicted board participant.

I 've been spending more time on FB. There are more Irish Draught breeders and owners there and no "Who should I breed this mare to?" followed by a string of continental WB ads
    I wasn't always a Smurf
    Penmerryl's Sophie RIDSH
"I ain't as good as I once was but I'm as good once as I ever was"
The ignore list is my friend. It takes 2 to argue.

I've been a member here for a long time, but have not posted much recently and have taken long breaks from COTH before for a variety of reasons.

I don't know, I kind of miss the ol' crew. It's great that this board has grown so much but I don't feel like there are the "connections" there used to be. Of course, I cannot connect if I don't post... :P

I think everything has slowed since FB. I don't like FB. Email listserves are all but gone. I made good friends on some horsey listserves in the past, but no one uses them anymore.

Well, looking at the stats right now, seems that the traffic is rather heavy, compared with other times.

I think there are several reasons for the times forums get more or less traffic, on COTH and other places.
I think that the internet is so much larger and diverse today and that we are accessing web sites thru more than a desk computer any more is a big part of it, people spreading over more choices to spend their time.
If you have a young, active large family or circle of friends, or co-worker, or co-competitors, breeders, etc. you may be spending longer on FB and such.
If you are more looking for information without a direct personal touch you can follow up with in real life, then internet forums like COTH will still appeal to you.

Default Well, here in the midwest,

We are awaiting, breathlessly, a Snowmageddon. Last night, there was a spectacular fire. Not spec in that it was good, but that it was big.
I am making chili, and discovered I HAD NO BEANS FOR MY CHILI!!! I had to go to the store. It was filled. They better be right about this. They say we are looking at 6-10 inches of snow. But it has already been pushed back from today to tomorrow.
    Another killer of threads

Oh, yes, we are getting that right now, is heading your way they say.
It is foggy and misty now, supposed to turn to snow tonight and give us about 6" of wet snow.
In our drought, no one is complaining and wishing this one away, but anxious to see if we get it and how much where.

Also, most everyone here has that terrible cold that is laying so many low, mine today in it's fourth day of headache so bad my eyeballs hurt, plus all the other such colds miseries.
Someone just told me theirs took 3 weeks to go away.

I hope you get all that snow and that you wanted it.

It's probably because people tend to rip the crap out of posters - so heaven forbid you state your opinion - it's non-allowed! We should all be clones and think exactly alike.

I know there are time I just don't bother and I really get sick of reading people who attack others - if you disagree you can state so nicely - there is no reason to say "you pig - you know nothing" or "you can't spell/have impropoer english",... or the equivalent... I just see too much like that. (I personally don't care if the english is not perfect - as long as I can understand what they are trying to say I'm fine, and for those whose responses I can't stand? I block them so I don't have to read what they write.
