    The full quote is actually

'But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, *AWAY FROM THE FOG OF THE CONTROVERSY".'

Conveniently the last part of the sentence is almost always left out.

The purpose of the controversy is to encourage congress men/women to debate and dissect the bill. Then and only then decide to pass or not pass the bill.

This is akin to me, someone you don't know, telling you to buy the horse before I let you know anything about it. You would tell me to where to go and how to get there.

Now see, I read that a different way...that the controversy is so overwhelming (which is was) that you have to get away from it to be able to read it properly. You know, the death panels and all.

Lol, yes there is. Plenty of them out there on both sides. I find it ironic that those who claim to be 'liberal' seek to restrict people's rights as much as some conservatives do. I have a right to own firearms of my choice yet libs want to take that away. And God forbid anyone say/do anything that may remotely offend someone, ever. Weird how if one person is offended by something, they demand things be changed for everyone, regardless of whether others are offended, or even thought to be offended, by some stupid, trivial thing.
Extreme right wingers want to dictate what women do with their bodies.
And to top that off, we have an administration that has successfully divided this country to the point that no one can agree on anything.

Multiple steps. Get away and read the bill. Come together to debate the bill. After the debate decide to table the bill or to vote on the bill.

Do not make an uninformed decision especially when it has such a massive impact on the entire country.

Hillary Clinton 2016. Looks like it's going to be a lock. Not so crazy.

Oh, sure. If the GOP runs another freak, if the economy climbs out of the toilet and brings back the millions of jobs currently forecast to take another decade to replace, and the price of gas drops below $5 a gallon. And even then, I think it'd take Obama being assassinated by Karl Rove wearing a KKK hood to get a third term for the Democrats.
