    Default The "UGLY" stage...

Okay 2011 was my first year breeding. I was fortunate enough to have three absolutely gorgeous and healthy foals in 2012. I always knew that they go through that 'ugly' stage where you can hardly look at them but I was not prepared for the upside-down necks....! The muscling seems heavier underneath- particularly on one of the foals. They were all so brilliantly uphill when they were born. Please tell me that this is just a phase they are going through and it goes away when they grow up and fill out...!?

Yes. My beautiful necked filly just went from wowza to, OMG, where did her neck go at 2. It comes back, eventually. My almost five year old stlll isn't finished with getting her neck back.

^Thanks! I just did a search here for "ugly stage" and it appears I have plenty of company! I feel better now.

Yes, my nearly 1 year old filly is currently firmly entrenched in the hideous camp. They say it gets better. I just view her only from a distance.

I watched videos of my 3 month old until she was 2 just to console myself.

My little girl looked hideous with all her winter hair... Huge blocky head etc... But now that she's clipped in prep for shows she's the swan I remember her being!!! And she feels extra beautiful I guess, she sure arches her neck and struts her stuff now!!

There is only one angle my 8 month old looks good from, and that is the front when all I can see is his cute face.
We're spending our money on horses and bourbon. The rest we're just wasting.
