Default Wrestling dropped from the 2020 Olympics (yes, HR)

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports...149_story.html

Modern Pentathlon gets saved. Apparently the UIPM Vice President Juan Antonio Samaranch the son of the former IOC president and is also an IOC board member himself. Hmmm.

Someone said it's too bad they couldn't combine the wrestling events in with Judo and Taekwondo -- much like they grouped the track & field events into Athletics.

    Thoughts?

Not surprised Juan Jr fought hard for MP. Big Juan was a big supporter and spent alot of time at the venue.
It will get axed eventually in favor of something more TV friendly.

Wrestling just didn't have tickets sold or enough TV interest.

Makes sense since 99-44/100% of the people in this country expect it to be like the 'rasslin they see on TV.

As the late great Lewis Grizzard used to ask, "Whadda ya do with somebody who thinks 'rasslin's for real and the moon shot's a fake?"

Now I'm reminded of that South Park episode with the pro wrestling vs. real wrestling.

MP was only fun to watch during the last portion (run/shoot). The riding portion, as we all know, could use some cleaning up.

We have to remember that the OG is a world wide tv audience, not just for North America. Wrestling is for everybody, and does not require expensive equipment. Gold Medallist Daniel Ogali started wrestling in his native Nigeria
with his schoolmates on a dusty playground. Can't say the same for, say, yachting, golf, and other elitist sports they want to include. Table tennis is a legitimate sport requiring complex skills, even though some over here do not see the point....just ask the Chinese.

I think it is a mistake in light of other sports that are in contention. There is a slim chance it may not be axed.
