Default Hanoverian Gelding in Eastern PA

    17 h, beautiful 1997 bay Hanoverian Gelding.
Free to approved home with references.

Imported in 2000, was a competitive 2nd level dressage horse before head shaking diagnosis in 2006 halted his show career. Very safe at the walk, I have put beginners/non-riders on him for pony rides and simple lessons. He is regularly ridden walk, trot. On good days he offers canter and rides like a dressage horse, and even jumped small cross rails for a friend who came to ride! On bad days it is as if he has a headache and just wants to walk under saddle.

Very friendly, interactive, he loves people. Come meet him, ride him, get to know him, see if he is a fit for you.

We are located in northern Bucks County. Please contact me by PM with your name, email address and/or phone number.

I had a mare that started head shaking at age 5 and continued throughout her life. When she was 7 or 8 I put her on Cyproheptadine and it virtually stopped the headshaking. It's relatiively inexpensive and she went from only being ridable in the winter months to being ridable all year. If you have not tried it, it may be worth it to give it a shot. Good luck!

Thank you for your kind suggestion, ponymamwithkids. We invested a small fortune in various treatments over about 2 years, from Cyproheptadine to acupuncture to having an MRI done of his head. All to no avail.
The best change was after we started him on daily melatonin in 2010, and it has leveled off his symptoms so that he seems generally content and comfortable. He still has too much twitch for competition and there are a handful of days that he will only offer jog or walk. He is a beautiful horse that needs love, understanding, and a job to do.
