I fasten my hind leg straps so that they attach to the same side they come from, but I run one through the other first. I have come to find out that in my area, nobody does this. They attach the right to the left, left to the right.

Didn't realize that this was a repeat. The reasoning I was given is that crossing one through the other other will prevent a horse from getting a foot through one when rolling.

I do it the way you do it and (knock on wood) have never had a problem with a horse rolling. And I have one horse that LOVES to roll.

I generally do it the way you do but my old guy tends to have softer manure which causes it to fall straight down, splatting on the snaps. He now gets left leg on left side, right leg on right side so I don't have to chip the manure away before I can unsnap them. Seconding DW.

Both ways prevents a horse from getting a leg through it while rolling (when done properly) so it really doesn't matter. I've done both ways and have never had a problem either way.

Left to left, right to right, crossing in the middle keeps the straps from rubbing on the legs as well as keeping hooves from getting caught.

Ever since doing it left to right and right to left caused my saintly QH gentleman to kick out at his farrier (with whom he had a mutual love affair), I've done it as I first described.

It rubs the inside of the leg less if done the OPs way. I prefer them with no leg straps.

This is what I have done, and never had an issue with rubbing. Crossing from side to side always IME causes the blanket to shift too much. Or just go Rambo and tail straps and don't worry about it.

Blankets with the "older" style leg straps which are thicker and have the T hooks that attach in front of the stifle supposedly last longer if you do them the way the OP mentioned (same side but linked). I am trying to think of which manufacturer(s) have that written in their "instructions" but cannot recall.

I also agree with above; big fan of Amigos with no leg straps!

I like to cross mine...now. I used to leave them uncrossed and one time I had a horse get a nasty sore/rub all at once, probably just rolled the wrong way. Well since then I figured it's just as easy to cross them as leave them uncrossed. Neither way is "right", it's just a preference.
Personally, I think if I was a horse I would like them crossed so they weren't always rubbing on me, but that's just me, I'm easily annoyed by things like that

My trainer does it the way you do. I usually do right to left, left to right. A lot of people in the Midwest cross the leg straps.

My BM and I have gone around and around about this. She does the X (right to left, left to right) and I do the C where they do a half twist in the middle.
