i'm pretty picky about some food and one is pressing hard down on cooking burgers.
another is cooking scrambled eggs at high heat and stirring them into tiny little crumbs.
i also cannot handle limp bacon.
i'm not the only one am i?
I used to date a guy who committed many food sins. Here are just a few which will help explain why I am no longer going out with him:
1) Let cats roam around the kitchen and climb on the counter. Friends that he had over for dinner would find cat hair in the food.
2) Hosted a "crab fest" for a small group of friends and tried to save money by going to the store first thing in the morning to buy the crabs that had died in the night. Those were cheaper than the live crabs.
3) When he ran out of salt one time while trying to boil water for the crab fest in (2) above, he attempted to use driveway salt instead of table salt. That is until I screamed and said: "no!!! don't do that". It was all I could do when I saw him about to dump the box of salt in the water.
I can't handle limp bacon either, Ugh. A good omelet is a thing of beauty (and taste) as are good browned potatoes.
I don't like things overcooked either. DH's family was very old school, thought everything had to be cooked to death before it was safe to eat. I hated eating there. I hate when they eat here, because they complain that I don't cook stuff enough. Vegetables are supposed to be a bit crispy, and have taste people!! Ham is not supposed to look (and taste) like hockey pucks!
I wish I was a better cook. Some days I am better, some days I just want to get it out of the way, so I can go do something else that is more important.
I never watch cooking shows, because we don't have a TV. I will cruise for recipes online tho.
i almost did not marry dh when i saw how he made scrambled eggs. i almost cried when he ruined those poor eggs. and he's otherwise such an excellent cook, don't know why or how scrambling eggss were such a challenge.
i was able to teach him about big creamy soft curds and the marriage is going well now.
Well done steaks and pressing burgers... Not for me. Not a fan of extremely dry beef.
Hilarious times are working in a restaurant and bringing the kitchen an order for a lovely cut of prime aged beef...extra well done. You can then watch the show.

Not food per se, but cooking for company and having only the exact number of portions as people.
Former GF did this, it was embarassing to be at her table, alloted your skimpy portion and have your stomach growl for seconds that did not exist.
Or if there (miracle of miracles!) happened to be an extra she made sure to announce how she would pack that for hubby's lunch tomorrow.

Maybe it was just the way I was brought up, but company was always provided with plenty of food.
We used to tease my Mom "add more water to the soup, I invited a friend"

OMG this week I had this client bring in 2 different dogs on different days--he is an OLD man, probably 70s, and had his similarly aged (but very hip) wife with him. Their dogs are OBESE and I always tease that they have the only obese farm dogs I've ever seen.
Well, this week, Mr. Smith was FULL of Viagra jokes. His wife just stood there and rolled her eyes. I was in stitches. When he saw I wasn't offended by the first (tame) one, they just kept coming!
I'll never think of bacon the same...

Not really cooking, but recently at a "all hands on board" dinner, when one lady was asked to wash the veggies, she grabbed the Dawn dish soap and bubbled them up. Later, she brought out a small package of cheese and informed everyone that "we limit ourselves to three small pieces". When we ate our three small pieces, she asked to have the rest wrapped so she could take it home....
Cooking on "High". I hate people who are like "I need to get this done quickly so I'm gonna cook it at max temp!" It ruins everything. I cook burgers at low-med temps and they come out wonderful while most others seem to just crank it up and let it burn.
Going to a potluck with a tiny contribution. A friend of my family's used to bring a tiny (think half of a loaf pan) sweet bread of some sort to dinners at my parents' house when we were kids. Mind you, there were 7 kids with big appetites - bless her, she never had kids so I'm sure she thought that was plenty!
Green bean casserole off the back of the French's onions. I make it because everyone seems to love it but I think it's awful. I did find a "deluxe" version that uses fresh mushrooms that is excellent and I will eat that.
