Wink Who waited the longest for an engagement ring?

How long did you wait before you got engaged?
Ever get frustrated with the waiting?

I'm currently not-so-patiently waiting on one. We're going on four years. My favorite activities include browsing rings online while BF can see what I'm doing and walking around the apartment singing Beyonce's "Single Ladies." I'm very discreet.

Haha, ok, I'm not quite there yet but I think that's funny.

The earliest "love letters" I have between my grandparents are dated 1914, and refer to "this last year", so I assume they got "involved" in 1913.

They got married in December 1923.

Nine years. But that was due to ME, not my ever-so-patient husband. I'd been married before. Married young - too young for me - & definitely to the wrong person for the wrong reasons. Left a bad taste in my mouth, so I was in no hurry to tie the knot again.

So even though hubby & I will be celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary this coming August, we've actually been happily together for a whopping 33 years.

Heh. Well, in my situation, the length of the wait was due to him always having another priority... we were "ready", had talked about marriage, were both on the same page that we wanted to spend our lives together, etcetc, within the first two years. He always had something else that had to happen first, usually career wise.

That translated, naturally, to our marriage. I was not a priority in his life. The marriage did not last.

YMMV. I have four dear friends, two couples, who are both getting married this year after being together for seven years and six years, and I have no doubt their relationships are built for the long haul. In my case, we were never as "on the same page" as I led myself to believe, and I should have seen that coming.

I have an acquaintance who lived with her SO for a long time before marriage... They got married on the 25th anniversary of their first date! And this wasn't an on-again, off-again relationship. After 25 years, I'm not sure why they bothered to make it "official"!!!

    Rubyfree is correct.

One sure sign that it will not happen anytime soon if at all is if he is saying in order for marriage to happen, X needs to happen first.

I've been with my SO for just over 10 years. Still waiting. Although to be fair, the first 5 years were long distance (college and grad school in different states). We've been living together for a year and a half now, and I'm getting really impatient now. Frustrating when you're happy with the person but not the situation.

Six years for marriage number 1. I finally had to give him an ultimatim(sp?) either we're engaged within a year or he's gone. Like someone else said, he was waiting to get comfortable in his job before getting married I should have run far away. We lasted 4 years and I dumped him. I'm on marriage number 2 and we dated for a year, got married and this year will be 19 years.
