Barn name ideas?
Hi, all. I can't believe I'm posting this thread, but I am seeking some barn name ideas for my new guy. I've come up with very appropriate show name (when we get to that point), but I'm kind of at a loss for a barn name that I like. About the new kid...
Black & white *supposed* Friesian-paint cross. Has a perfect, big upside down teardrop in the middle of his forehead. He rides, drives, jumps and works cattle. In fact, the only thing we're unsure of is if he events, but given his can-do attitude and willing temperament, we don't think it'll be an issue. He's very sweet. In fact, the vet who did his PPE said he's the best behaved horse she'd ever vetted.
I tend to steer away from people names for horses. I like names that reflect nature - birds, trees, water, etc.
I'm also thinking of names that reflect his coloring; i.e. Ansel (even though it's a people name), as in Ansel Adams, but that kinda sounds like "a$$hole" and I don't want him to live up to that name!
So that gives us something to start with. Got any ideas COTHers? If so, spill 'em! Thanks!
ETA: Adding public link to said pony's FB pics. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...1&l=6d2e1b7118 Isn't he the cutest?! :-)

What are you thinking for a show name? I always really like the barn name and the show name to be connected. For example:
Show name: On the Beat Barn name: Tempo
Show/JC name: Three O'Clock Rock Barn Name:Trio
Show Name: Talk of the Town Barn Name: Chatter
You get the idea. Sometimes shortened versions work. My To Be Announced had the barn name Tobe (pronounced Toby).
OTTBs rule, but spots are good too!

Show name will be "Take II". Reasoning behind this is b/c when I lost my longtime equine partner and friend last summer, I ended up buying a horse that was not a good match for me...some drama, frustration and disappointment ensued and I have since sold that horse into a perfect situation for him. All's well that ends well. Ironically, that horse was also a Friesian-paint cross. I say 'ironically' b/c I'm not actively seeking that cross, it's just happened. Anywho, "Take II" reflects an, "okay, let's try this again," sentiment. I thought about "Deuce" as a barn name, but the horse I just sold was "Zeus", so I don't want to do that.

You got him, then?!
What was his barn name before?
Black and white . . . nature, birds . . .
Mynah? Magpie is too girly. Mumble? (like the penguin)
"Duo" for Take II? Also implies two colors.

Rerun.
Double-Stuff. (black and white as in oreos)
Do-over... Doobie.
I had another couple in mind but they've escaped. With all the effort I have put into naming my own horses, real names and barn names, I always end up actually calling them something different and usually nonsensical!

Yes, ma'am! He passed the PPE with flying colors. Phew! Planning to pick him up this Saturday.
Barn name is currently "Bellamy", which isn't bad, but I don't know... I think I'd just like something different.
P.S. LAZ posted pics on FB last night if you want to peek at him.

Me, too. Boscoe's barn name is, well, Boscoe, which is perfectly adorable but for whatever reason I always call him "Daddy-O".
I think the etymology of "Bellamy" would be "good friend". Buddy is a good name (and was Keebler's non-Keebler nickname)

You mentioned his teardrop. How about "Tear"?

Personally? I'd wait till he gets home and then see what happens. All my horses end up being called things that have nothing to do with any of their names. That's why right now I have Pony Toes, Naners and Schmondor and ride Bean and Meatball. I also had Pie, Pokey and Stinky.

First and foremost, I LOFF the new guy! Saw the pictures (in minature form on my phone) last night when you and LAZ posted on Facebook. So cute! And although Zeus was gorgeous, I feel like Take II has that *look* about him that Facers had that screams life-long partner for you. I can't wait to meet the newbie!
Second, I kind of like delta's suggestion of Duo. Cute, short, fits the show name and his color scheme.
My other thoughts... something to do with films (Take II), photography (black & white) or newsprint (black & white). Such as, say, Copy? Seems weird, but I was thinking somewhere along the lines of B/W print (as in newspaper). Copy is a synonym for print, as is face But, after 4pm on a workday is not exactly the best time for a creative thought process with me, so I'm having trouble coming up with much else.

I like Duo as well as Ditto (sory of old word for copy). Loved the pictures on facebook.

In that case, I'd probably just call him "Taker", but I'm fairly infamous for having the horse's barn name be the show name and vice versa. Duo and Ditto are both cute though he's sort of more horse than I'd think of a "Ditto" as being.

What a cool horse!
I think Bellamy sounds too girly.

Thanks for the ideas, folks. Ditto is cute. I also like Chaplin...how's that for out of the blue? My sister was thinking of Charlie Chaplin b/c of the black & white reference. I kinda like it, though. I know it's a "people name" but it's an unusual one.
