    Default How much roofing felt do I need?

    I know that I need 42 bundles of shingles but I am wondering how many rolls of felt do I need? Are they kind of standard size?

    There's a bit over 400 sq ft of felt paper to a roll. If your bundles of shingles are 3 bundles per "square", then you're covering about 1400 sq. feet of roof. 1400/400= 3.5. Get 4 rolls of felt.

    15 lb. covers twice the area of 30 lb. felt. Since they came out with the new stuff, don't remember what it's called, I haven't used roofing felt. The other stuff takes SO many fewer fasteners, is light weight, doesn't tear anywhere nearly as easily (actually almost impossible to tear), gives much better traction for walking on, and doesn't make tools and clothes dirty. It is some more expensive, but so worth it.

    There are a bunch of different ones. I just use the one that Lowes or Home Depot sells. Not this one, but something similar. This is just one of the synthetics:
