I searched to see if such a thing already existed on here, but didn't find it. If it's here and I've overlooked it, please pardon this interruption to the regularly scheduled program.

Annnnyyyywwwaaaayyyy.....in perusing the craigslist ads, I often come across some farm/garden horse ads that just demand to be shared for one reason or another. The purpose of this thread is not to beat down on anyone...but to enjoy a little giggle...well, I could use more giggles and some of the folks who advertise have a sense of humor that should be shared. ??? Didn't realize anyone was beat down. We have some really amusing folks who post to local cl - sometimes their wordsmithing is just hysterical. Sort of like that old eBay ad where the man was selling the wedding dress and modeled it himself.

My reason for including that verbiage - I was hoping it would dissuade folks from putting up ads and them reaming the seller for whatever reason (ugly horse, crappy rider in short shorts or whatever). I thought this ad was funny and ironic b/c any of us who has ever sold a horse would like to include the "no idiots" line but we don't.

That said - tip toeing out of the land mine field....

Always a good idea to quote the text from the ad, if you want to share a funny. CL ads expire after three months, anyway.

It was just text - not nearly as funny as the hay breeding stallion - the guy was Gigi g away 2 horses and ended the ad with "no traders and no idiots". Just cracked me up because how many times have any of us who have sold horses wanted to include that line?!?

I once saw an ad on CL for a foal blanket for sale...and the picture they had included was of a guy (husband? boyfriend?) crouched on hands and knees wearing the little horse blanket.....you better believe I showed all the horse people I knew that ad!!!

Clean stalls, bring in horses, feed them, groom them, grounds maintenance, 5 days a week - maybe get to ride? It would look good on a resume that you are willing to perform slave labor... I could see it if it was volunteering for a rescue, but....

That "internship" is in a three-horse barn! That's not even a stable! It's just somebody with horses in the backyard!

Just stumbled across my local CL:

6 year old (started) Quarter Horse w/ papers: KING is an Overo Paint, perfect dorsal stripe, pale carmel (classic dark champagne) w/ four white stockings. Started on saddle (Light/Australian and Western) w/ split bit or halter lead). (NO LONG SHANKS.) He's our biggest asshole because he knows he's soooo pretty. Still, he reacts well when he is verbally and physically recognized as pleasing to his trainer/rider. (Hell on fences unless he's worked regularly.) (This is our horse with the best potential. He spent 4 months with a trainer and performed from the first day. Bold markings and straight-forward confirmation. With the right partner, he'll be the Blue Ribbon winner EVERY time.) (Not bragging. If you work with him for half an hour you'll know!)

8 year old: Pal is broken to Western and English (not his favorite) w/ multiple bit leads and has an "easy mouth". Also papered. Quarter Horse. ( Originally trained for cutting and culling.) This is our black and white paint with Tobiano shoulders. If he wasn't a gelding, we'd keep him for breeding stock. Amazing muscular confirmation! Smart horse. (Too smart for me!) Not an asshole. He shows obvious signs of depression if his usual rider/partner is disappointed, hurt, or confused. (He reads "his person" really well.) He is usually patient with inexperienced riders but expects specific direction within the first hour of training. He'd make someone very happy as a barrel racer. (Not enough work for him on our farm.)

20 year old Arabian: Barron is Gorgeous! Complete chestnut. Usually mild (precious ground manners--he's a LOVE!). Under saddle...well, he's a hand-full under saddle (wicked fast from walk to "OMG!!!") until he recognizes the rider as the "command post" (insert big grin here). He takes verbal "suggestions" when applied with firm commands. He likes to work and always wants a job. He performs best with high verbal praise and "cookies". (I've worked with him on various commands without treats, and he still wants to please! It's all in the tone of voice and the physical acceptance that he receives.) This is a really amazing horse! (I'd keep him but my health is failing. He needs someone who will out-live him.) He NEEDS a rider.

We will trade for fruit-bearing trees and/or bushes. Otherwise, if you wish to make a CASH (trade) offer--after coming to our farm and seeing/riding our horses--we'll be happy to oblige.

We've been very blessed with smart horses. I once worked and rode them regularly. With the illness I must now deal with (I'm only 40) I can no longer provide these horses with the attention they need.

Please help. I'm offering up my lovies, with papers, in trade.

These horses are currently biding their time as "yard art".

They deserve so much better!
