Current project pony is getting rubs from most of my saddle pads. Fun!

Looking for a preferably square pad with no bindings that is cut forward enough to work with xc/jump saddles. I'm open to any suggestions!


I'm looking mostly for daily schooling so affordable and easy to wash are high on the list.

though I am not sure they fit the "affordable" criteria, they meet all your other requirements.

The Success Equestrian Saddle pads are great and in my opinion, every bit as good as the more pricey Ecogold. I know one trainer who says they are better than the Ecogold. I've got the latter now but it is way too expensive to use for every day.

You can find the SE pad at Dover, Smartpak, and VTO. I think they are about 1/2 the price of the Ecogold and just don't have the "trendy" label.

I have Perri's pads that fit neatly under my forward XC saddle. Not sure about the no binding etc, but they're affordable and wear well.

what about those poly pads? they have no seams and they have forward cut pads now.
My friend had a very sensitive horse who couldn't go in anything but those poly pads.

I used to use poly pads but found that they were so bulky in the washing machine. They have made super dog beds though. I do know that others use them a lot with good success.

Love the nuumed pads and I use my mattes fleece all purpose pad more than the rest and it fits my forward flap saddle nicely.

The toklat is the most forward cut of the bunch and knowing your long legs you probably have a very forward flap

Yeah..the toklat are what I have been using that have been rubbing him. I'm thinking of just sacrificing one or two and cutting off the binding.

I know a lot of my old poly pads became dog/cat beds. Hate to buy new ones

I may need to go to using a mattes pad directly on his back....he probably will like that. I just hate cleaning them! He also liked the more expensive saddles too so now he is getting new saddles and I'm getting more credit card debt!....he better turn into a nice horse

I tend to use this the most because it does have the wool under it and then I don't have to get my mattes correction pad dirty

I would *love* to find a quality "saddle-shaped" pad for every day. It would be less pad to wash and less sweating (under the pad) on hot days. The only ones I've seen are either very thin, as in like baby pads, or prohibitively expensive. I've thought about ordering them custom through Toklat... but that's just one more thing to spend $$ on that could be used for entries/lessons.

Ogilvy makes nice "baby" pads that are forward cut and SIZED. Critical for fitting forward cut saddles without having the cantle hang over the edge of the pad. The material is sturdy but not bulky - I (well, BF) uses his under the sheepskin half pad for the monster super forward 18" saddle with no issues. The price is reasonable as well. They also have more XC style options if that is more your thing. While not as super amazing as ecogold (unless you go for the fancy padded options) certainly easier on the pocket book.

I also love the nuumed pads that Jess linked to. I don't think you can buy them in the US. (I've gotten mine used on ebay, but they don't show up very often).

I have had good luck with some of the Roma pads fitting my XC saddles (we have two for showing and they fit the stubben roxanne, the devoucoux chiberta, and now my ideal impala, all forward flaps). Can't remember the exact one but they are super soft underneath and we have had no problems with them.
