Default Talk to me about Diarado and Balou du Rouet...

Looking for some more opinions on Diarado and Balou du Rouet...

I have some opinions on these guys but I am looking for some more information based on experiences.

What are they most known for producing? what are they most likely to improve on a mare?
What kind of mares should be avoided for these guys?

I know Balou has a substainal amount of offspring in the jumper ring but what is Diarado producing for prospects for the upper levels?

I look forward to your insight.

    Thanks!

The oldest Diarado's are 4 . Do not breed him to a small mare.

Just my personal observation but Balou, although he seems to consistently throw chrome to his offspring, is inconsistent in type as I've seen them all over the map.

Reece, I've also heard concerns about scope. What have you seen/heard?

Not according to the sons I've seen at Nuemunster last fall. Massive scope on those sons. He had more daughters on the elite mare show than any other stallion last year as well. Most had very good jumping scores.

You must know his family when breeding to him. This is why the ones produced in Holstein have been the best so far. Diarado's from other breeding regions have not had the same quality thus far because those breeders don;t know his family. They will catch on but right now the best Diarado's are coming out of Holstein.

Interesting, thanks for the reply Bayhawk!

Bayhawk, is there any information on Diarado bred to TB mares?

Thanks Reece. That would explain it as I've seen some from non-Holsteiner motherlines that were less than thrilling.

Not unless it has been done here. Other than blood , I personally don't think a TB mare could provide what Diarado needs.

Welcome. Yes , that is why I have been on the fence about him since his approval. My fence sitting was justified according to the first couple of crops.

After seeing the Elite mare show in the spring and the Stallion approvals in the fall , now I would use him.

May I ask what is your idea of a small mare? Small as in height-how many hands?, or small as in frame -as in fine boned? Or both?
