    Default Picaridin for biting midges?

Has anyone tried/used products with picaridin to combat biting midges? I have done some reading on this product, and it supposedly works as well as deet but not toxic. Centaurea makes a spray for horses and people, that looks interesting. I am batteling neck thread worms and winning so far, but the season for midges is coming fast, and I want to protect my mare as best I can. Would appreciate some feedback, thanks!

Yes. I tried a can of the Centaura spray last year and am willing to say it's marginally better than pyrethrin-based sprays, which IMO are very slightly north of "useless". Still nowhere near as good as DEET products, however.

On a scale of 1-10 with DEET being a 10 (because that's the best there is, not that it's great) and "nothing" being a zero, I'd give pyrethrin-based products a 1 or 2 and the Centaura a 3.

    Barriers are best for blackflies/midges.
