In anticipation of the arrival of my new saddle (Wednesday will mark the 6 week mark in the waiting process!), I am hunting around looking for a very certain saddle pad that I would LOVE to have for it. Can the COTH super shoppers help me find it?

The perfect saddle pad would be: A contour pad that will fit my high forward short flap County Conquest. It would be cotton and be lined with sheepskin ONLY under the panels. No rolls or trim. Just clean, trim cotton, with fluffy sheepskin where it counts for my sensitive dude.

ECP is the closest I have found, and I do love ECP pads. BUT A) I am not sure it will be forward enough and B) I don't like the trim.

I would also consider JUST the cotton contour pad, and put my halfpads under that.

I did have a decently forward enough Fleeceworks for my old, good Berney Bros, but I hate Fleeceworks, and that one had trim, too (I don't like the trim under my leg).

Any ideas? I know there are a few out there, but most don't seem forward enough. Maybe others can confirm that some of the others I have seen would be forward enough.

I have two of these pads, except that the sheepskin peeps out in a roll in front of the pommel.
They fit my County Conquest (flap has an extra inch, so probably similar to yours).
I had to special order them from Mattes at the time (several years ago). Like you, I am not a fabulous mattes fan but they have held up pretty well.
The griffin Nuu med folks could make you one I am sure, but customs fees will make it almost as expensive as just buying the mattes....

My favorite pads are Griffin Nuumed, and they make one like you describe:

if that's not forward enough, they also do custom orders. I do t know the pricing for those, but for stock pads, the quality is excellent, the prices reasonable and they last FOREVER with proper care. The catch is that they no longer sell in the US, but if you know anyone traveling to the UK, they will ship the pad to a hotel or wherever and it arrives quickly.

(PS: Last time I was in the UK I went a little crazy stocking up and now have a couple extra hi-wither half-pads, if anyone is looking!)

I am also a huge Griffin Nuumed fan. Have one that I got in 1999 and it is still in great shape.

ditto to the nuumed pad..I have been lucky enough to find some on ebay here and there and I hoard them I also really like the mattes pad but I understand the dislike of the rolls b/c then it doesn't fit my half pad well. I have the same saddle and my other choice is a toklat cross country pad. Fits really nicely and is custom in my colors.

I have the Griffin Nuumed Shaped dressage pad with wool just under the panels. I love it. For my horse, I didn't need the high wither cut. I also have a high wither half pad that I like, but doesn't work for my horse, so it is headed for Ebay at some point.

It was at Dover on clearance and had sheepskin only under the panels. Cannot find it anywhere now. I used it with my Ainsley XC, so it would probably work for you.

I have one of these for my County Conquest, in the jumping style, and it fits perfectly. The shaped pad does still have the roll in front, but it does help keep the saddle in place.

Thanks, all! I don't mind a roll at the pommel, I just don't like a lot of bulky trim where my leg goes.

I'll look into some of these ideas. No Fleeceworks, though. I hate them. ECP and Mattes are my preference, at least for sheepskin that is readily available in the US. I won't buy Fleeceworks anymore.

How can you go wrong?

You can always "shear" a fleece pad if there's too much fluff in one place or another, using a razor knife.

I have two of those already. And I more times than not will only ride with a half pad. BUT, I would really like to try to find a contour pad. Toby is a crazy sweater, especially in the warmer months, and I would love to be able to protect the new saddle from the crazy sweat monster some.

Honestly that seems the easiest option of all. And made here in the US as well.

Those prices are flipping crazy.

I'm cheap. I always go with the Romas Merino pads.
The prices have gone up over the past year. I used to get the square all purpose for 70 bucks.

Sadly for you, the sheepskin covers the entire pad. : (

It has a tiny bit of sheepskin in front of the pommel but the rest is plain, with sheepskin panels underneath the quilting. I like my Mattes half pad a lot, it has held up for years of use and still looks like new.

Yeah, purp, the Romas aren't too bad and I used them as show pads on Vernon for ages. But they don't hold up to the washing I put them through.

I really want contour. I'll look into the Toklat.
