    Lightbulb TATTOO RESEARCH?

I bought/ rescued a Standardbred (I think)... his tattoo conforms to the Standardbred tattoo sequence. By the letters, he could be as old as 26 (which other signs, teeth condition etc) would fit. I have tried to research the tattoo on a number of sites. I am a complete NOVICE about tattoos, what the returns mean, or anything! I have a picture of his tattoo, and would appreciate any comments, suggestions, or ENTHUSIASCTIC RESEARCHERS who mights want to help!
I have a picture, but don't know how to post pics. He is a male(gelding) Black, small star centered between eyes, no other white. TATTOO FS4?? (looks like 09,08, 0r 06...)

THANKS FOR ANY AND ALL HELP!

The freeze brand on the standie I just got is less one number than the actual registration number. Have you tried putting in the various numbers in the allbreed pedigreequery?

sk, how dark does the color brown cover? I see the op says her horse is black, but maybe not a true black so he would be registered brown???

Gestalt, brown is any dark coat w/black mane and tail with no hint of red, none of this confusing mess of dark bay or brown. Most horses listed as brown are black with lighter muzzles and flanks, but absolutely no hint of the reddish undertones of a dark bay. Both USTA and SC will make you change colour in the registry if it is wrong upon inspection by the ID technician aka the tattoo man.

As to the OP's horse, the one I found is the only one that matched markings.

This is the one that I found that most closely sounded like mine. However, I don't know how to find out anything else.... Looked like he was still owned by somebody? I don't know how to read these...

VERY useful.... as he is somewhat lighter now with black mane and tail, that pics I saw of him in the summer. So where do i go from here? Is there anyway to find out for sure? I have a pic of tattoo and of him ..... (remember RESCUED... if you see the pic!)

At his age, not much you can find out. You may be able to get, for a fee, QSUM from Standardbred Canada or the USTA equivelant but that only gives money earned and life mark. There will be no races left in the system as they purge those with the exception of World Champions and some of those, particularly those that raced when a hard card was the only record, may have the stakes and record setting races in the system. Being absolutely certain this is the horse can only be done if the tattoo is completely legible

I am sure he changed hands several times without papers as papers often got lost in race offices, only to turn up there 10 years after a horse retires, or papers just got lost and some just never got transferred; electronic registration prevents this from happening and the only time you MAY need a hard copy is at a bloodstock sale. Back when this horse was racing, there was no way to get papers unless you were a mamber of SC which then was CTA or USTA although there are now ways around that for non-breeding stock. All you really need, however, is a bill of sale to prove he is yours.

If he is fading and has light areas around the flanks and muzzle, he is definitely brown. I've had a 14 year battle with people here about Wallkicker being brown - they insist he is black and he is not as his muzzle and flanks are considerably lighter......and he gets a nasty orangy tinge if he stays in the sun too long.

is there anyway to PM you? Or PM me your email? I would love for you to see him and his tattoo. I have always been what I call, a backyard pony kinda girl. Have never really been involved in any pedigree-ed animals. That doesn't matter to me, just interested in his history. He is one of the most loveable and docile horses I have ever met! Thanks!

He looks so sweet. He has a beautiful expression. Please post follow up pictures, I'd love to see him when he sheds out and puts some weight and muscle on. I'm glad he has landed in such a loving home.
