After years of changing human lives, Jillian Michaels began reaching out to other species. “I think when you rescue animals you rescue a part of yourself that feels helpless and alone,” Michaels says. “It really brings peace to your soul.” To that end, she has served as a spokesperson for the Last Chance for Animals campaign to stop the Bureau of Land Management’s roundup of wild horses and burros in the West and is also a proponent of ending the carriage horse industry in large cities, such as New York
I saw her with her horse on an episode of Dog Whisperer a few years ago. She had adopted a little dog who didn't listen to her at all and got into scary situations at the barn. She indeed rode bareback with no helmet.
When he wants his treats he starts kicking and he doesn’t realize he weighs 2,000 pounds. He’s a 2,000-pound lap horse. [Laughs.] He doesn’t understand that and he pushes into you when he wants his cookies
and he gets turned out "twice a week".
That oughta confuse some peeps.
C&I: What does he do that makes you laugh?
Michaels: He is a total escape artist. On any given day of the week I will get a phone call telling me that he has escaped from his stall. Then he gets into the miniature ponies’ grain. It’s a scene. The whole barn is involved. The vet is called. It’s a whole shenanigan. He tears everything down. [Laughs.]
Um... it's funny that he gets loose, makes the entire barn panic, and eats enough grain to have the vet called out?
When she was on the Dog Whisperer they taped her scenes at the barn - she boards at LAEC. Look it up on GoogleMaps. Turn out is very, very limited.
And yes, she rode down a 'trail' bareback w/ no helmet.
She means he has two days off where he does not get ridden, only turned out. He goes out in a sun pen daily as well--that's a turn out. For an urban horse, this is about as good as it gets. Competition for those sun pens is fierce at times. This horse has a great lifestyle.
A helmet saved my life.
2014 goal: learn to ride like TheHorseProblem, er, a barn rat!
And she brags about riding without a helmet, because her horse is so fabulous, she doesn't NEED one. But he's so AWARE, so CAREFUL, he takes such good CARE of me because he KNOWS he's been RESCUED..............
Yep, lost THAT respect.....
