    Default Black Saddle?

I am looking for a used saddle, however it has proven hard to do. I know what I want, I just need to find it used.

Is a black saddle a complete no in the Hunter ring? I am mainly an eventer, but I move a lot, so I maybe doing hunters in a few years. I found a saddle with everything I need, but it is black.

    TIA

What level are you planning on showing?

If the saddle is perfect for what you need now, I would buy it. You can always keep an eye out for a brown one over the next few years.

It would be local level, 2' maybe 2'6". My horse is older, so I would not push him anymore than that height. He just turned 20 this year.

I wouldn't worry about the colour of the saddle. That's great he's still going strong at 20!

My last horse took the provincial championship in road hack in a black saddle. It is not the 'in' color but I really doubt you'll be penalized because of it. I think as long as you have a well presented clean turnout (match your bridle to your saddle) you'll be fine. Especially at the local level.

The railbirds won't like it. The judges probably won't GAS.

When you canter around the course and lay down a perfect trip no one is going to be able to tell (or care) that your saddle is black and not very dark brown.

I have a black saddle. I didn't mean to buy a black one, but I found this one used (but pretty much brand new). It's a very expensive big name brand which was a custom order but never picked up. Well, whoever ordered it must be my twin and her horse must be my horse's twin because you couldn't ask for a better fit for either of us. And I got it for a steal! Who cares about the color- how much of a saddle really shows while you're in the ring anyway!

Buy your black saddle and don't worry about it. I doubt anyone will even notice while you're in the ring...and if anyone says anything to you, they're petty.
