Interview with the ad's director
http://adage.com/article/special-rep...r-bowl/239569/
Here's some great insights into the commercial. Warning: they talk about the actor picking up the Clyde's "leash" (oy), and the director gives a shout-out to trainer Tommy "Kurvy."

LOVED the Dodge commercial (and I don't even believe in God! It was just gorgeous) but the Bud commercial bugged me a bit—who snaps a leadrope to the ring under the crownpiece?

With the Dodge commercial, we were following, following, liking, following....wondering WHAT it was a commercial for...and then there was a Dodge Ram and I turned to my husband (son of a farmer) and said "Nice commercial, but no farmer will buy a Dodge." LOL
He liked the commercial though. We're not "God" people, but both liked it.
Now the Bud commercial...good gravy. I had to explain it to him...the bottle feeding, sleeping in a stall, why it was precious, etc.
<head desk>
In hubby's defense, they raised cattle and usually bought deacon calves so the bottle feeding wasn't indicative of a problem in his world.

.
I'm not either but I loved the ad.
I don't think the Dodge ad was aimed at farmers. It was aimed at (mostly men) people who want to consider themselves "tough, rugged, all-american" types. After all, the 150 is the best selling truck and that's hardly a "farm" truck.

I think you nailed it. It certainly wasn't aimed at people like me, but I found it well done. I am amused by a friend who is ranting about it on Facebook, for the use of "religion" and patriotism, and using as ultra-conservative as the voice (but I didn't recognize who the voice was).

It's a beautiful speech-- almost poetry. Whether you agree with the sentiment or use in the commercial or not-- it is BEAUTIFULLY written and you don't hear that kind of quality writing on TV often at all.

Oh, I totally agree. I'm not the target audience, but I could appreciate the beauty of the speech and images! To clarify, my friend was offended that the voice was Paul Harvey [edited: I had the wrong name], who was supposedly some right-wing conspiracy theorist, but I didn't recognize the voice and don't know who he was.

The voice on the Dodge "Farmer" ad was Paul Harvey, whom I believe wrote and recorded the piece for ABC radio. He used to report on whatever struck him in American culture and was always interesting, as I recall. I think he called his segment "The Rest of the Story", but my memory could be faulty.
I remember loving the cadence of his writing, the vividness of his phrasing. The "Farmer" piece is a great example. So much is covered in so little time. Such a far cry from reporters now!
They don't call me frugal for nothing.

Check out the turtlecreekfarm youtubes on how they trained them for the commercials. I believe that's the right name. Pretty neat to see!

It was Paul Harvey...as noted right at the beginning of the commercial.
You must be very young? Probably didn't grow up with "The Rest of the Story" like I did. That's unmistakeable Paul Harvey.

Frugal Annie and Buddy Roo right, it's Paul Harvey. It's a speech delivered to FFA at some point. Dodge just edited and used the recording.

Yes, as others have said, for sure Paul Harvey.
It is sad that there are people who do not recognize his voice. (And it makes me feel old.)
