Not normal at all!!! I have been in practice just shy of ten years and have never heard of leaving them open the way you would a dog or cat. Please tell me they sent you home with antibiotics, since they left a bloody wound open. If this had happened to me with a patient, I would have gone back and done a scrotal ablation.

I would also have a talk with the rescue about the vet they use after he is seen by your regular vet. He must be horribly uncomfortable.

I would expect him to get send home with NSAIDs and antibiotics...that isn't normal. If you can get ice on it great, but if not, understandable. Not sure why they let you bring him home like that...how bad was the swelling??

They did not send him home with anything. Not even a cone. I have him in a diaper and pair of pants so be doesn't have to be trapped in the kitchen by himself. The bleeding seems to have slowed, but it hard to keep him chilled out.

The incision (bear with me here... I'm not really good at terminology... As previously proven with my buggering comment ;-) ) looks like they made it right through the sac. It's directly behind his penis, running parell to the floor. I've never seen a neuter like this. He seems pretty comfortable, let me ice it and is gamely wearing his pants. At least the blood is keeping the wound clean, right?

Wow what a nightmare. I am so sorry for you and your guy. All I can think is wow, thats horrid. This is why I only use my own vets. This is why when good intentioned people say "so and so vet is cheaper", I let them know cheaper isnt always better and I will go to my trusted vet. Thats just awful you had to go to another vet than your own. Hope things are on the mend quickly.

He's doing a lot better this morning. No more dripping blood, just smears when he sits down. Happily letting me do whatever I need to as far as ice and diapers! I'm waiting for our normal vet to give me a call back so I can get him in for a look see.

Sounds like a hatchet job to me! The rescue must be in cahoots with the vet!

He's doing really well. Went on an adventure to our regular vet, who said that she could suture him back up, but at this point it wouldn't really be fair to put him back under again.

He's now outfitted in a kotex pad and pair of lovely panties.

The original vet called to check on him, but I talked to the tech, and let them know how unacceptable things were, she told me that she would talk to the vet and let her know, then call me back.... I never heard back. Typical.
