Dayton OH local barn owner/eventer severely injured in fall
Cross-posting this from Off Course.......
Kristen Distl, the owner of Cedar Springs Farm in Cedarville, OH suffered a severe spinal injury as the result of a fall during a jumping school this past Saturday December 8th.
She is recovering from surgery to stabilize her injuries at Miami Valley Hospital.
I am sure she and her family are going to need as much support as the Dayton equine community can muster in every way you can imagine.
Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

Ugh, Poor Kristen. Do you know what happened? Do we have an address for cards? I'm a little too far to offer much on-site help, unfortunately.

Her horse either stumbled or slid on landing after last fence in a grid and went down on his knees, she went over the front of him and hit hard. It all happened so very quickly.......
This from the hospital's FAQs on flowers and mail should help http://www.miamivalleyhospital.org/m...=10878#sending

I saw her on Tuesday. There has been some improvement in her condition, some feeling has returned to the upper extremities.
We all remain hopeful of a full recovery.

Any update on how Kristen is doing? I walked her through Thistledown when she purchased Bacon and Rice & Warrior. Was she injured schooling one of them?
Thanks

Best wishes, jingles and prayers for Kristen. I know how important all of that and the support of friends and family are after having a bad fall involving a spinal injury.

She's moved to rehab. From what I know some feeling and movement has returned to her upper limbs. Still has some respiratory difficulties.
She was riding her main horse, Dutch.

I don't know Kristen but my farrier is friends with her and her husband. He told me yesterday that she is still on a ventilator and that they were going to start trying to rehab her to breath on her own. Apparently the day that it happened she had been sick and was not at her best. A lesson to all of us to pay attention to our own health and strength before riding, just as we would for our horses.
Even though I have never met her I think of her daily and send prayers for a recovery that will allow her to have a good quality of life and for her family to find the strength to get through this very difficult time together.

O Gosh-best wishes to Kristin and her people. It can all go so wrong so fast, just doing what we love best.

Update, Kristen is still fighting to get completely off the ventilator but making progress. She is also slowly regaining the use of her hands.
