Awwww. Many hugs for you skyedragon and well done for making a difficult decision. Know that she is in a better place now, and free of pain.

Flip a coin. It's not what side lands that matters, but what side you were hoping for when the coin was still in the air.

Hugs from Colorado. Sorry to hear of your loss.
If I had to pick one thing to hang my hat on, I would want the horse I was going to buy to have a face I would enjoy seeing poked over the stall webbing every morning, waiting for breakfast. J.Wofford

I just went through the same thing with my 25-year old gelding three weeks ago -- with the same outcome. He went back and forth for ten days -- colicking, not, colicking, not -- three emergency vet trips, a thousand dollars in bills, and lost him anyway. I'm so sorry about your mare -- but if they have a killing colic, there is no other outcome. They're lost when it starts, we just don't know it. And yes -- as much as we hate it, there's relief when it's done.
As Lovey said -- hugs for you, Godspeed to your mare.

Thank you everybody. It feels so surreal. Friday night I was making plans to go trail riding with her Saturday, then Saturday morning when we found her all cut up from being cast we bandaged her up and the BO and I discussed booking our mares to stallions, getting them on the same cycle to save on the vet fees, etc. I was going to actually go through with breeding her this spring if the vet gave his blessing. Then as the day progressed everything fell apart with the final blow dealt yesterday. I keep wishing that I could just wake up and this all be a very, very bad dream.
