INFO. SOUGHT on horse insurance: hunter rate, take credit cards, pay online, etc.
Hi, all. I've struggled in the past year with a very awkward insurance company. They are GREAT people, but their policies just don't suit my feast-or-famine, but I-have-great-credit business. I'm sure they have their reasons for only taking checks, but it simply doesn't suit my situation. Are there ANY alternatives out there, or are these policies universal? (I don't understand why, if I can pay over time, they aren't flexible in other areas, too--but, again, I realize it may just be the industry. This is why I'm asking here.)
I'd also like to know what the best rates are for full mortality and major medial for hunter ponies, any colic coverage specials, and the best rates for fire, lightening, and theft of breeding stock.
I don't know about the best rates (although originally years ago when I shopped around they were the lowest I believe), but the agency I deal with does take credit card payments. I work with Broadstone, website here. http://broadstoneequine.com/
They are always helpful and easy to work with.
Just wanted to add, I've only used them for insuring show hunters that were horses, never a barn or breeding stock.
I have Hallmark and can attest to their service unfortunately. I recently switched to Hallmark this past spring - I found their rates to be a bit more reasonable and they offered better coverage. For example they give a $3,000 colic rider where others gave $2500. To be honest I didn't really scrutinize lameness exams/treatments etc. They have an online payment system where you could pay w/ credit card and they will do a payment plan. My horse had colic surgery this fall and they were great w/ the claim. They processed my claim and send me checks about 3 weeks after I sent them in, Under the circumstances I couldn't be happier w/ them.
Call Julie at Nicholson Insurance. They are an agency and work with multiple underwriters so can do the legwork for you. And they take credit cards, can do the horses and the farm (and your car and house & liability if you want!) and are great at finding the best coverage at the best rates and, if necessary, going to bat for their clients if there are problems.
Wynn, contact Jennifer Oliver. I just had a lengthy conversation with her Thursday about exactly what you are asking. She works with several companies, but Diamond State is what I'm using. Will allow payments too.
I have used Shawna Dietrich for almost twenty years. The service is fantastic and professional--I need constant reminders to do my paperwork, etc. and they always call or email to make sure everything is up to date. I believe they also have multiple underwriters some with credit card options.
