Any idea about this, is it someone hiding a toxicity-type illness?
I got an email from my older sister today (we're both old, I'm in my 50's and she's MUCH older) :-) who is volunteering at a summer camp we both used to work at. She said that the horses had been sick so far for the 3 weeks camp had been open. She said that one horse in the herd had been "born with" some contagious disease and when it "came out" it infected all the horses neurologically. They were circling, staggering --- and every horse was like this --- maybe 40 or 50.
I've never in my life heard of anything like this, and I told her it was a bunch of hooey. For one thing, a disease they are "born with" that shows up and becomes contagious when they are adults??? Nonsense. And I can't imagine every single horse there suddenly coming down with the same bacterial or viral or parasitic illness at the same time. To me, it sounds like a toxicity problem. I ran the stables there at one time, I know the horses are out in big pastures much of the time, and of course, they are all eating from the same hay source.
She claims that some of the horses are fine now and they are riding them. None of what she told me has made sense, and I told her that someone is either has no idea what they are talking about or they are trying to cover something up. Or both. I just can't imagine a horse with a neurological problem being all recovered in 3 weeks, and that's just one of the problems with her story I can't buy.
If you have any ideas or suggestions, or agree with my theory that it's a toxicity problem, please PM me as well as post here --- I'm off at a dog show this weekend and will have little or no time to check the thread.
