Oh, yes, that's an issue, the scarcity of YEH competitions. And my horses are in Southern Pines, not in some far-flung eventing desert.
There are exactly two YEHs in reasonable distance this year -- the Fork and Waredaca (which isn't really reasonable). Last year, we also had two to choose from, at the Ark. Unfortunately, we had to scratch our very suitable 4YO YEH -- who is now subk's 5YO -- from both, due to injuries to other horses at home on the mornings of those competition.
This year, we have a new 5YO, who is also a YEH type, and we're making these competitions a goal for him.
Le Lion is a nice thought but a damn testing track. I've never had a 6 or 7 YO who's ready for that tough a test, even if it was well within their athletic ability. But who wouldn't want to have a horse there?
