Default Now what is this guy riding?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4Okx...1&feature=fvwp

It popped up under abuse, and besides the agenda no info.
I am guessing, by the vehicles in the parking lot, it's somewhere in Germany...but I can't see a single trailer.

I thought it was a test, then I realized he has the horse wrapped up to the eyeballs....but then at the 3:40 mark he halts for a salute?

Very strange, since there is a relatively large crowd and he is wearing his tails.

(no use going int the RK discussion, really, it's not the point. The titles popping up are a bit hyperbole, and of course comments have been disabled. I am sure the contributor had a reason)

Looks like a warm up ring.... is that what you are asking?

Nothing looks "strange" about it, to me.
Whomever, appears to be warming up the horse in preparation for a class.

Ahh, but there is something strange about this warm up ring and it is a warm up ring at a show in Germany. Replies?

I see quite a few horse vans (or boxes or trailers or whatever you want to call them).

Yes, in Europe vans are prefered over trailers. There is still something wrong with the warm up ring and I reiterate: it is a warm up ring.

Aren't some "important" folks allowed to warm up exclusively, ie have the ring to themselves?

I suspect he is indeed warming up, and Yes the horse is frequently and sometimes remarkable BTV, call it what you wish. As for the rider, I would say that while he shows polish as a rider, some of his aids are rough. It has also been my observation over the years, that riders who ride from a behind the vertical position are frequently doing so from a lack of strength.

Is that indeed Totilas who seemed to be ridden effortlessly by Edward Gal?
Some riders change their horse, they change their saddle, they change their teacher; they never change themselves.

that was not the point, believe it or not.

I did see a few horse vans, but the average German show has a number of Brenderup style trailers in the parking lot.

But not that close to the arena.

But I had at first the impression that it was a test, then I noticed the wraps.

But it being the infamous pair, I am no longer surprised at the 'omg how not to ride' pretext of the video.

ohmegosh...the horse has to work for 6 minutes without hoof holding....

and it expalins the ton of people on the rails

If you are wondering why he is all by himself, at big competitions, the horse & rider next to go have the exclusive use of an extra ring for a certain time. They all start out in the general warm up arena and just before their ride time they are allowed in the next ring before the actual competition arena. That is the same for everybody! Big name or not!!

the point was hey, he is having wraps on the horse, it can't be a test can it?

and it would not be the big warm up before the test either, because they generally have the wrapping taken off, there, too?

    So I was considering exhibition.

it was a general 'huh?' moment.

Eurodressage had a field day with this one though.

If I remember correctly, the pair never were in the warm up with others and had a ring exclusively to themselves.. people made quite a fuss at the time.

    Alagirl, I understand now.
