Looking at the omnibus, its obvious there's tons of recognized events in virginia and the surrounding area.
What about schooling events? Is VA like Aiken in the winter where
young horses can be developed fast and exposed to a lot or is
it mostly recognized stuff?
That should have most schooling events in Area 2, which VA is in.
Virginia is a BIG state, so it will depend on what part of VA you are talking about. Here in NOVA, you can pretty much go some place within an hour or two every weekend of the year- events, dressage shows, jumper shows, you name it. Lots to do...there are no events from about mid November until the end of March, but you can certain find stuff to do.
Other parts of the state may be quieter or more oriented toward other disciplines. I grew up in the Richmond area....there's a reason I headed north.
I moved here in late August and was kinda wondering the same thing. My vet's tech referred me to www.vahorsetrials.com, which has a lot of schooling shows and such near the Virginia Horse Center. I was really happy to find some things to take my baby horse to that won't break the bank!
Also Check out cvacta.org , thats the eventing/dressage association local to the richmond area and they host several CT's/Clinics/ Schooling days. that and vahorsetrials.com are where I find most of the schooling shows in this area
